Our Fears Confirmed

It has been a trying last 6 weeks or so for our little family. A first ultrasound indicated there was a 50% chance that there was something seriously wrong with our new baby. We then went through a CVS (Chorionic Villi Sampling) and two Amnios (Amniocentesis, FISH test) to try and find out if this was really the case. Today, we learned that our baby has a terminal disease called Trisomy 18, or Edwards syndrome. I didn't quite know what this was, but it is described here, Trisomy 18 Foundation. There is an extremely high chance the baby will not make it to birth, and if she (yes, it's a girl) does, she is not expected to live long. This is very sad for us, but we have decided to carry on with the pregnancy. Hopefully, we will get to hold her in our arms before she passes on. We debated whether we should post this, but we decided to let you all know as there is nothing we can do medically. Please keep us in your prayers. We trust the Lord has a plan for us and that He knows what is best for our family.

  4. Hey Cam, I'm so sorry to hear that. I have a friend who also had a baby with a terminal problem. He did make it to birth, and survived only 4 hours, just long enough to hold him and give him a blessing. If talking to someone would help you or Karren, let me know, I would be happy to connect you with them.

  6. Cam and Karren I was so heartbroken to hear your news. I was talking to my sister-in-law and her sister was told that her little boy would have the same thing. He does have down syndrome and has a few other issues, but he is now almost 7 years old! So there is hope that your little one will enjoy this life here on earth. Your family is in our prayers!

  8. I am so sorry to hear that. My older sister had a similar pregnancy, bu ther baby had trisomy 13 which is a deformation of the 13th chromosome. She delivered but brittany only lived 17 hours. It was a very sad experience but it was also very spiritual. For the very short time Brittany was in out family she touched us all very much. I will be praying for you and Karen and you sweet little baby.
